Editorial and listing policy
How articles are made
- Primary sources first. Rules on insurance, co-payments and benefits are taken from Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare materials and official insurer documentation — not from other English-language sites. Clinical statements follow Japanese clinical guidelines.
- Physician review. Every article is reviewed by the author, a licensed physician, before publication. Nothing is published on medical topics without that review.
- Annual re-verification. Japanese healthcare figures change with the fiscal year and with periodic reform. Every article carries a "last reviewed" date, and figures are re-checked at least annually and whenever a reform takes effect.
- Scope discipline. We explain systems, procedures and the general medicine behind them. We do not diagnose, do not recommend treatments for individuals, and do not answer personal medical questions.
Clinic listings
Listings in the clinic directory are researched independently and verified on a rolling basis.
- Clinics cannot pay to be listed, ranked higher, or featured. There is no sponsorship tier and no advertising in the directory.
- Inclusion is based on documented English-language capability, accessibility to foreign residents, and whether a clinic's stated services can be verified.
- A listing is a statement that a clinic exists and offers English-language service — it is not a clinical endorsement, and we cannot vouch for the care any individual receives.
- Clinics may request correction of factual errors. They may not request removal of accurate information or influence how they are described.
Conflicts of interest
The author accepts no payment, gift, hospitality or other consideration from pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, insurers, hospitals or clinics in connection with this site. Should any commercial relationship ever exist, it will be disclosed prominently on the relevant page.
Revenue comes from readers only: paid guides and directory subscriptions.
Corrections policy
Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed. Substantive corrections are noted at the foot of the article with the date. Silent edits are not made to material claims.
